2024 - 2025 Qualification Requirements for Team 

ALL ELIGIBLE Team Officials (Coaches, Trainers and Managers, etc.) 

• All qualifications must be registered with the OMHA - if you obtained a coaches or trainer certification with an association outside of OMHA, please complete  TRANSFER OF QUALIFICATIONS and send to 

COACHING QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

In order to be qualified as Coach 1-Intro to Coach (Coaches in divisions U9 and Below) - No other qualifications are accepted

•  Respect in Sport – Activity Leader

In order to be qualified as Coach 2 (Coaches in divisions U10 and above)

• However, they would require the appropriate qualification listed in chart above for participation with teams from outside their House League (i.e. exhibition and/or tournament play).
• In addition, if the Head Coach were not available to start a House League game, an appropriately NCCP qualified Coach would be required to act as the Head Coach.

Police Record Check (VRC)

OHF Centralized Record Check

The process for the Vulnerable Sector Checks will be centralized and conducted by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) for all Team Officials and Team Personnel for the 2024-25 season. This is in addition to the screening of all On-Ice Officials that has been in place for the past number of years

EVERYONE WHO WILL BE ROSTERED TO A TEAM FOR THE 24-25 SEASON, MUST SUBMIT A VSC (FROM THE 22-23 SEASON OR NEWER) ALONG WITH THE OHF DECLARATION THROUGH THE OHF VSC REGISTRATION.

The following individuals who are associated with the OHF, must adhere to the OHF Screening Policy and submit to the OHF:
• Team Officials (including but not limited to Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Trainers, Managers and overall Team volunteers);
• Anyone else who, through their duties on behalf of the OHF, may work with children (included but not limited to on ice volunteer, skills coaches, third party skills coaches and dressing room supervisors).

Eligibility to Coach
It is imperative for all Team Officials to ensure their Vulnerable Sector Check is complete to be eligible to programs on and off the ice. This includes a valid Vulnerable Sector Check and the OHF Screening Declaration Form.

Before entering the OHF Screening Submission Portal, please ensure you are ready with the necessary documentation. You will need your:
• Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) Number (Here is how to find your HCR #); AND
• Vulnerable Sector Check (PDF) AND OHF Screening Declaration Form (PDF); OR
• Receipt of Vulnerable Sector Check (PDF) AND OHF Screening Declaration Form(PDF);

Please Note:
1. All documents must be in PDF format to be accepted.
2. For the 2024-25 season, the OHF will be accepting copies of a Vulnerable Sector Check from 2022-23 or 2023-24 AND OHF Screening Declaration Form (PDF).

GARDEN CITY KIWANIS MINOR HOCKEY CAN NOT UPLOAD THESE DOCUMENTS FOR YOU AND EVEN IF YOU SUBMITTED A NEW VSC FOR THE 23-24 SEASON, YOU WILL NEED TO SEND THESE DOCUMENTS TO THE OHF IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 24-25 SEASON.

HOW TO OBTAIN A PVSC

1.  Apply for a PVSC online via the Niagara Regional Police website.  https://www.policesolutions.ca/checks/services/niagara/  
2. NRP will mail your VSC to you. 
3. Follow the Steps above to submit your VSC to the Ontario Hockey Federation.

REIMBURSEMENT OF PVSC FEE

The association covers the cost of Police Vulnerable Sector Check for all rostered bench staff. Reimbursement will be issued directly to each team official when a RECIEPT is submitted to the GC Kiwanis administrator

 Gender Identity and Expression Course

The Ontario Hockey Federation provides online training for team officials to support inclusive hockey in Ontario and understanding discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.

This is a free course. 

Respect in Sport Activity Leader (or Speak Out or Prevention Services Program-PVS) 

The Respect in Sport online program is recognized as an equivalent to the Speak Out/Prevention Services training. This course is not the same as the Respect in Sport-Parent program.

This three-hour online program is divided into six 30-minute modules that include audio/visual presentations, quizzes, and printable handouts. One of the great benefits of the program is that it does not need to be completed in one sitting, allowing you to complete it at your leisure. However, you will not be considered trained until you complete the entire program. Participants can complete this program at their leisure within a 30 day time frame

The cost of the Respect In Sport online course is $30.

This *Coach 1 - Intro to Coach Clinic is tailored for the coach who will be coaching U7, U8 or U9.

Once clinic is completed it could take 24-48 hours to show on your profile.

Please note that in order to be on an Approved Roster as a Head Coach you have to be 19 years of age or older.

HTCP Trainer 1 Certification – The HTCP is a risk management and safety education program for the volunteer hockey trainer that is designed to educate people in the prevention, recognition and treatment of hockey related injuries.  The course is available as an online e-learning course through the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario and takes approximately three hours to complete.

INFORMATION ON NEW ONTARIO DRESSING ROOM POLICY
 

As the Ontario Minor Hockey Association's governing body, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), alongside Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) and Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), are the governing bodies for amateur hockey in Ontario and members of Hockey Canada.

The three members have come together to create the Ontario Dressing Room Policy. The Policy comes into effect February 1, 2024.

The Ontario Dressing Room Policy is focused on enhancing inclusion and safety for all participants on any team or officiating team across the province. Dressing rooms are designated team spaces for all team participants to use and interact in on a welcoming, equitable, inclusive, and safe basis. In addition, to minimize occurrences of maltreatment, bullying, and harassment in the dressing room these spaces now come with minimum attire and supervision requirements, and a requirement to accommodate individuals if they require additional measures or supports.

Hockey Canada and the three Ontario Members have worked together to draft a new policy that meets both the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal requirements and satisfies the new Hockey Canada Dressing Room Policy. The new Ontario Dressing Room Policy applies to Minor Hockey Associations at both Recreational and Representative programming. Effective February 1, 2024, the hybrid policy is in place and is another step towards creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for all players, while enhancing the safety of Minor Hockey participants through proper supervision and minimum clothing expectations.
